Foundation for Authentic Success

Brett's journey & life to Paradigm Rhyme

Brett Mackey’s upbringing was anything but ordinary. Born in Los Angeles to international Christian missionary parents—his mother from South Africa and father from Washington State—he spent his earliest days surrounded by a global perspective. His parents, after years spent at sea with Mercy Ships and founding humanitarian efforts in Mexico, eventually settled the family in rural east Texas.

Brett grew up with the backdrop of small-town life, embracing outdoor adventures and the classic “Friday Night Lights” culture. Raised with a worldview that was both expansive—rooted in international and socio-economic awareness—and restrictive—shaped by conservative evangelical values—Brett’s early passions were leadership and truth. He was driven by a desire to help others, but first sought to determine what was genuinely true, prompting a lifelong journey of exploration and questioning.

Graduating as salutatorian from high school, Brett went on to thrive at Baylor University, where he embraced student life, from Greek organizations and athletics to academics and student government. Majoring in International Studies, he studied abroad in Egypt, worked for the university’s international office, and cultivated a deep appreciation for diverse perspectives. During this time, he also encountered personal challenges with mental health, finding support and healing through therapy.

Brett graduated magna cum laude in 2011 as the top student in his major. He accepted a job offer that took him to Chicago, where he planned to build a new chapter of his life—and, in time, come out to his family.

Learning to Manage the Matrix

If you never risk, you'll never know...and the joy is in the journey...

Brett Mackey began his corporate career in Chicago at Allstate, where he quickly distinguished himself—becoming the youngest associate manager at the company. His natural leadership abilities flourished, even as his internal world began to shift. During this period, Brett explored consciousness practices, engaged deeply in therapy, and embraced his identity as a gay man. This chapter marked a profound turning point, as he discovered the personal power each individual holds in shaping their reality.

In 2014, Brett transitioned into consulting, joining Deloitte and rising through the ranks of the Big Four. He led high-performing teams that delivered major results for clients, but it was the human impact of his work that mattered most. Coaching others through career milestones, life transitions, and personal growth brought him deep emotional fulfillment.

These transformative years were also filled with global travel, cultural exploration, and evolving beliefs. Brett became a yogi, an uncle, a partner, and an avid skier. Alongside his professional ascent—including seven early promotions over 12 years—he increasingly prioritized purpose, community, and well-being.

The intensity of his fast-paced corporate climb came with both reward and strain. Juggling global leadership responsibilities and high-stakes decisions often led to anxiety and reflection. To stay grounded and make aligned choices, Brett embraced a wide range of healing practices: mindfulness, yoga, nature, journaling, time with loved ones, and studies in history and philosophy. He also discovered somatic healing and developed a strong interest in energy work, deepening his commitment to living a more conscious and integrated life.

Creating a Better World

In June 2023, when Brett Mackey’s role as Vice President of Digital Transformation at a major brand came to a close, he felt an undeniable call to align more deeply with passion and purpose. Stepping away from corporate life, he embarked on an open-ended sabbatical with no defined plan—only the intention to rediscover meaning, redefine success, and rebuild his personal paradigm.

This transformative period was rich with introspection and exploration. Brett immersed himself in meditation, reading, journaling, therapy, and breathwork. He traveled extensively, spent time in nature, pursued creative hobbies, and connected deeply with mentors, coaches, shamans, spiritual teachers, and loved ones. He also became more involved in nonprofit work aligned with his values. During this time, he earned certifications in breathwork, reiki, and yoga—laying the foundation for a life lived on his own terms. Though it felt like a complete reset, in retrospect, it was a season of profound productivity and alignment.

Eventually, Brett’s career evolved into something new and deeply fulfilling. He refocused on his greatest passion: helping people step into their most authentic and empowered selves. Today, Brett coaches individuals and leaders, produces and teaches popular breathwork, meditation, and sound healing experiences in Chicago, and works with organizations to cultivate grounded, creative, and conscious workplaces. He also curates events and retreats that foster personal growth and connection.

At the core of Brett’s work is a sense of joy in helping others thrive. He brings to his clients a rare blend of executive acumen and yogic wisdom—offering support with humility, collaboration, and a commitment to creating a more connected and conscious world.
